CASE STUDY

      A. PERSONAL DATA

The little girl named Princess Villanueva is a 7 years old girl who lived at 2997 Villa Emelda Hidalgo St. Camarin, Caloocan City. Her birthday is on November 4, 2003. She is studying as a grade III student of Camarin D. Elementary School withher teacher Mrs. Anggara. The mother of the child has a little store in their house while the father of the child is a taxi driver.
Princess has three brothers named; Piolo 12 yrs old, Randy 15 yrs old and Ryan 17 yrs old. Princess is the youngest among siblings.

B.  JOINING PROCESS
I’m the one who referred to the child with the help of my mother. Belen (mother of Princess) was a member of an organization in which my mother belongs too. That is why Belen allowed me to observe her daughter.
House of the child was located for about 10 houses away from my house. I’ve sometimes seen the child because we had a small store, and Princess buy on us that’s why the child was not that strange on me.
Princess was seem to be shameful every time I’d asks questions, but still she could answered it.
At the end of this observation, I expect the child to at least diminished her being talkative and easily pissed. I also tried to find the reason behind being such behavior and how does that disruptive behavior developed.

C. PRESENTING PROBLEM
The parents of the child told me that their daughter was always seeking for their attention. The parents sometimes get angry when their daughter do things that they don’t expected. Like saying bad words and interrupting the conversations of elders.
The parents also worried about the academic subject of the child in math because out of all subjects, math is the one that the child don’t want to do. The parents noticed too the behavior of the child which is being easily pissed.

D.4 PERSONALITY DYNAMICS (self-mastery)
I asked the child what were the things she wants to do, and she said, she wanted to play with her friends outside but her mother and brothers do not allowed her to go outside. Actually, I askd that question to know what was her interest in terms of her academics but then like other children, all she wanted to do was to play.
So then I changed my question into more specific. I asked the child “are you good in drawing?”. The child replied immediately with yes. Princess added that she was good also good in coloring because Piolo sometimes helped her.
As I observed her drawings that she hadb kept, I could say that she was indeed good in drawing and coloring, she had creative imagination because her drawings were so detailed.
After that, I asked now Princess about her having low interest in mathematics. Princess said that it was boring to see numbers, and another thing that makes it boring was the process of solving.

D.5 PERSONALITY DYNAMICS (relationship of the child).
I asked the mother of the child who are the people who often Princess socialize. The mother said, that the most often person who child socialize or talk was her. Belen said that even the brothers of Princess were at home, Princess still do not play with them because they had their own business.
Belen somehow noticed this problem of Princess which is she had no friends to play wtih, that is why Belen lets Maureen (close friend of Princess) to visits Princess and play with her even they bring too much noise and mess.
The mother also added that in school, Princess has a lot of friend and even during discussion Princess tend to chats with her friends. This makes Princess in being talkative inside classroom, however Princess could answers to her teacher.

D.6 PERSONALITY DYNAMICS (action)
On this part of my observation, I chose the times when Aunt of Princess visists their house with her young cousin (6 years old boy).
During their play, Princess seem to be authoretative on her cousin. Cousin of  Princess prefer to play with toy car but Princess wants to play with dolls and pertend cooking. Princess lossses patience (knitting of eyebrow) when she refuse to insists her cousin to play with her dolls. Eventually, Princess still convinced her cousin to play with dolls by getting the toy cars and consequently, cousin of Princess cried.

E. THEORETICAL FRAMEWOK

Children who tend to ask many questions might curious about particular things. It is part of natural development of child based from the theory made by Jean Piaget on his Cognitive Theory of development. It was on 2nd stage of development, Intutive thought sub-stage stating that children during that stage children were very curious. It is seen when children ask many questions and during this time, children develop primitive reasoning.
On the case of Princess, her being talkative was quite part of being curious child. The lack of time of her parents and brothers might be an addition that makes Princess to become more talkative. Princess do not had time to talk with them, that is why if she an opportunity to talk with them, she immediately grab it by doing things that will noticed her.Princess might also refuse to control herself that results to interrupting the conversations of others.
Children who are studying are forced to learn certain skills or ability, and then if they failed to learn, they could not avoid to hear bad comments from adults. This makes children feel inferior about themselves or view themselves as incompetent. Just like what had happened to Princess, she refused to learn mathematics and even she had tried her best to learn it, sge could not. So intead of learning mathematics, Princess was developed low interest toward it.
It was on the work of Erik Erickson that describes more about Industry Vs. Inferiority. The child must deal with demands to learn new skills or risk a sense of inferiority, failure and incompetence.

F. PROGNOSIS
In cognitive theory under pre-operatonal stage is the intuitive thought sub-stage. It describes that children tend to become very curious and ask many questions; begins the use of primitive reasoning. This is what happens to Princess, she is now in the stage who tend to become curious about things. The curiousity of Princess results on her to become talkative especially inside the school.
Initiative V.s Guilt is the third stage of Erik Erickson’s psychosocial development. The child under this stage is said to become more assertive and to take more initiative, butmay be too forceful, leading to guilt feeling. It was happened when Prinecss show willingness to helps her mother in laundry, and her brothers to their school works.
Since Princess was too young for that tasks, Princess was often scolded becauce of her demand to helps her mother and brothers.
Initiative of Princess brings her in trouble especially when she become too forceful to lead others. Just like what had happened to her cousin during playtime. Princess forced her cousin to play with her dolls and not the toy cars.
I think being initiative of Princess has something to do with her curiosity. Princess might curious on the tasks of her brothers and parents that is why she wanted to helps them.
Another problem of Princess is about her failures on math subject. Princess might continue to develops low interest toward math because of what had her parents told her. Princess on her current stage was insist by her parent to learn math but in this case she could not. Consequently, she become inferior more about her inability to learn math. It is also base from the Psychosocial theory Industry Vs. Inferiority where children need to deal with demands to learn new skills and if they could not do, they would suffer the sense of inferiority and incompetence.
I think another thing that makes her from being talkative intensely was because lack of time of her families. Busy parents and brothers of Princess do not have time to care Princess or even chat on her. Son in order for Princes to mind by her family, she tend to volunteer in the tasks of her parents and brothers. Unfortunately, instead of having the opportunity to chat with them, Princess was scolded because of her demand to help on adult’s works.
It has a connection when Princess interrupts the conversations of her parents, hoping that she would had a chance to talk with them.

G.THERAPEUTIC PLAN

            G.1 Knowledge building
At the end of the case study, the child must build knowledge about when she does her turns during the conversation of others, especially to show respect.

            G.2 Skills building
At the end of the case study, the child must build skills on how she will make a request a favor to othes politely. The child also needs to build skills of adapting the attitude towards her playmates with harmony. The child must develop being patience in waiting her turns during conversations of others.

            G.3 Attitude building
At the end of the case study, the child must learn attitude toward learning mathematics with enjoyment.

J. THERAPEUTIC RESULTS
The improvement in the behavior of Princess was somehow improved. Princess learned now how to please if she had a favor, she learned to wait with patience and she know now when to talk during the conversation of others.
All of these were developed from Princess but I thought it still depend from the situations. It was because there were stilll a time when Princess returned form being impatience.
In terms of being talkative of Princess, it was not actually removed. It was only Princess who knows when to talk and when to not talk.
I could say that talkative was good because it only shows that the child is just curious. So since it just about being curiousity, I think it should not really removed. Instead, it is improved for the child who only wants to learn new concept.
Princess only needs a time for her parents and brothers. If Princess refused to do that, it is the time now again when she could not control herself from talking with others. It was her school where she can sustain her satisfactionj in terms of communication or socialization with another person so we should not prevent that.

L. IMPLICATIONS TO EDUCATION
    AND ASSESSMENT OF YOUNG CHILDREN
It only shows that children cannot assessed easily especially in just one meeting. Instead, in has a long process in order to discover the reason behind maladaptive behavior of children.
As a teacher, I can say that I should not judge my students immediately especially those who act misbehaviors. I must understand ther first, then it’s time for me now to help them cope up with certain maladaptive behavior.
I can say also that each students are like skills in which they can form or act themselves in a way we wanted them to be.
In terms of assessment, teachers should avoid biases in oberving children so that they can yield real resolution and reason about the prob
